C.S. Gangadharan

C.S. Gangadharan (7 October 1927 - 8 April 2007) was an Indian freedom fighter, former MLA and State president of the Kerala Freedom Fighters Association. He was a prominent leader of Kerala Socialist Party(KSP)
Early Days
During his early university days, he followed his natural inclination by participating in freedom struggle. He was an activist of the Praja Mandalam and also the erstwhile Vidyarthi Congress. He stood strong in the forefront of student movement, many a time unwilling to compromise on his principles. On one occasion, Gangadharan was not given permission to appear for intermediate examinations because he wore khadi and was actively involved in the student movement.〔() "The Hindu"〕
Foray into Politics
He participanted in Quit India movement. After leaving INC in 1947, formed KSP (Kerala Socialist Party) under the leadership of Mathai Manjooran, whom he considered as his mentor and guide. Gangadharan led an agitation to Viyyur jail, when Manjooran was jailed. Brutally assaulted by police and jailed, he was released from prison a day before the country became free from British rule.
C.S Gangadharan (called CS by friends)〔() "Freedom from Red tapism - The Hindu"〕 was a staunch activist for KSP in post independence era serving as Secretary, KSP as well as publisher of Socialist (Weekly), the organ of KSP. He contested elections in 1970 with the support of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and was elected to the Kerala Assembly from Irinjalakuda constituency.〔() "Kerala Assembly - 1970 Official Government site"〕
In 1952, He married Vijayalakshmi, Grand daughter of Chief Secretary of Cochin State Komattil Achutha Menon. Considering the caste-communal divide prevalent in society in those days, Gangadharan saw the inter-caste marriage as a revolutionary move. They have 2 sons and 4 daughters.〔
